The first thing is first, You need to have all the requirements before getting started with this particular guide. So make you sure you don’t miss any of them.

  2. Blank Space for macOS 10.12

  • macOS Sierra or El Capitan downloaded from the App Store
  • 8 GB or Higher USB Flash Drive (Get it Now)
  • Edimax EW-7811un (Get it Now)

Creating a USB Installer

Firstly, You need to create a bootable USB installer for macOS Sierra to install it on the Lenovo laptop. The process of creating a bootable USB installer for macOS Sierra or El Capitan is a little bit longer, so due to this, we have managed in separate articles to create bootable USB. Now all you have to do is, follow one of the way below to create bootable USB installer for macOS Sierra.

  1. Create Bootable USB Installer Using Unibeast on Macintosh (Highly Recommended)
  2. Create USB Installer for macOS on Windows 10 or lower

Tip: If you don’t have access to Macintosh (Macbook) then you can install macOS on VMware then follow the Unibeast guide on your Windows 7/8/10.

Important Note: After creating USB Installer via Unibeast then you need to copy ApplePS2SmartTouch Kext(TouchPad), VoodooPs2Controller Kext (Keyboard) and FakeSMC Kext to the USB Installer. First Mount the EFI partition of USB via Clover configurator then copy and paste it EFI > Clover > Kexts > other. When you boot from USB then your touchpad and keyboard will work, otherwise, you need an external mouse & keyboard to complete the Installation Process.

If you have already then made you sure you have copied or moved your data before continuing to install macOS on that volume drive because it will clean and disappeared from your Windows. So in short, I want to say that you need a free empty partition or vacant HDD or SSD to install macOS Sierra on it. If don’t own any of them then create an empty partition drive by the article below or buy an HDD or SSD right now.

UEFI BIOS Settings

After creating free disk space for macOS Sierra and bootable USB installer. First, you have to set up parts of your computer BIOS, this will let your PC to boot into USB installer. It’s only for Lenovo laptops and it may or may not work for any other laptop.

Now after installing macOS Sierra on your Lenovo z50-70, this part is very tricky and important. Because you might face some problems after the installation, like sound and Wi-Fi isn’t working, no internet connection and the most important that you are unable to boot into macOS Sierra without the USB Installer then you need a post-installation.

Installing Edimax Driver (Wi-Fi Solution)

After installing macOS Sierra 10.12 on your laptop then you may have a big problem with Wi-Fi because it disappeared completely from the settings. So you can connect to the internet via cable or a wifi dongle, like Edimax EW-7811un. So if you have the already the item to install the driver, download the installer files from the like below then open it and install it by clicking continue a couple of times and type your password and hit enter to confirm the installation process.

Install Edimax Wireless USB Adapter driver

Installing bootloader

This step is recommended to do before anything else because later the Kext has to save here. Also if you don’t do this, you won’t be able to boot into macOS Sierra by the disk itself. For booting in maOS Sierra still, you will need to use the USB installer, though you aren’t using it install macOS Sierra. So it one of the most important and easy tasks that you have to do here.

#1. Download the Clover EFI Bootloader.

#2. Open Clover EFI then click Continue to Introduction & Read Me page.

[Exclusive Guide] Install macOS Sierra on Lenovo Z50-70/ Z40/ G50

Clover EFI Introduction Page

Place HFSPlus.efi

Installing & Fixing All other tasks

Now here, I will show you how to install and fix all other drives, remember the commands below are entered in the terminal and works great. All you have to do is copy and paste these commands in your terminal.

#1. Firstly, to make all these things happen we need the developer tools, so open terminal and type the following Command.

git

[Exclusive Guide] Install macOS Sierra on Lenovo Z50-70/ Z40/ G50

Install Developer Tools

#2. After the developer tool is installed then run the commands below in the terminal to download or copy all the important file from GitHub to your Mac drive.

mkdir ~/Projects cd ~/Projects git clone https://github.com/the-braveknight/Lenovo-Z50-DSDT-Patch.git z50.git

#3. Now this time paste the commands below to your terminal to download and install the required Kext and drivers on your laptop.

cd ~/Projects/z50.git ./download.sh ./install_downloads.sh

#4. If you have an ELAN trackpad then run the following commands.

 cd ~/Projects/z50.git ./download.sh ./install_downloads.sh elan

#5. After running the above commands a restart is not bad to understand what works and not.

#6. To finish the setup, we need a correctly patched DSDT/SSDT, these patches are created specially for this kind of laptops. So If you return from a restart, copy & paste the following commands into your terminal. If no then same but without the first line.

cd ~/Projects/z50.git make make install

Power Management

For power management use the ssdtPRgen.sh script by Pike R. Instructions for using it are provided in the README. When you run the commands below then it will place the generated SSDT.aml to /EFI/Clover/ACPI/patched/SSDT.aml, it’s current instructions at the README. So you need to run the following commands.

#1. Open the terminal then copy & paste this command, it will download the file into your Lenovo laptop.

cd ~/Projects/z50.git curl -o ./ssdtPRGen.sh https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Piker-Alpha/ssdtPRGen.sh/master/ssdtPRGen.sh chmod +x ./ssdtPRGen.sh

#2. So now the files should be downloaded, run the command below to apply it to your laptop.

./ssdtPRGen.sh

#3.  After running the command above then it will ask if you want to copy to /Extra? So respond with “n” to cancel the operation. Same respond “n” for opening ssdt.dsl.

#4. You can find the result at ~/Library/ssdtPRgen/SSDT.aml now copy then the same ssdt.aml file and paste it on /EFI/Clover/ACPI/patched/SSDT.aml. You can do it graphically if you wish but also run the command below to finish it in a moment.

cd ~/Projects/z50.git sudo ./mount_efi.sh / cp ~/Library/ssdtPRgen/ssdt.aml /Volumes/EFI/EFI/Clover/ACPI/patched/SSDT.aml

Place the Config.plist

If you have successfully completed the steps above, so now you are good to go with the following steps. Because if you place this config.plist file into your UEFI bootloader and there are not the files that you use above, it can’t work properly then your laptop might face some terrible issues.

#1. Firstly, you have to mount the EFI partition of your laptop, where the Clover files are placed. To mount EFI you can use clover configurator or the command below.

cd ~/Projects/z50.git sudo ./mount_efi.sh /

#2. Copy the config.plist file from /Projects/z50.git then paste/replace it with /EFI/EFI/Clover/config.plist, to do it graphically but also you can do it via commands below.

cd ~/Projects/z50.git cp config.plist /Volumes/EFI/EFI/Clover/config.plist

Troubleshooting

After updating your Hackintosh then the settings and patches might lose the correct configuration and the laptop might stop working properly. So after the updates, you need to fix it manually.

Fixing Sound

If you have applied all the settings above then your sound isn’t working then you need to follow this the steps below. This happens after installing new/updated Kexts or after the initial installation, you may lose audio, So need to bring it back to the cache.

#1. Make you sure you have installed then audio Kext for your laptop. After that restart your laptop and on the clover, menu hit space bar then boot with without caches.

#2. Now rebuild the cache, open terminal and run the following command. This command makes the audio in the cache to start working again.

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions && sudo kextcache -u /

#3. Restart your laptop normally, if needed, two times.

Also, It’s possible to fix your sound by VoodoHDA. So download VoodoHDA.kext and Install it by kext utility or Easy Kext Pro then restart your laptop to get the result. (if needed two times)

Update the patched repos

When a major update comes to the Mac OS and after installing new updates then you need to update the repo project. So need re-patch DSDT/SSDT with the commands below.

#1. Open the terminal and run the following commands. It will download and install all the update kexts, patches, scripts and much more.

cd ~/Projects/z50.git git pull ./download.sh ./install_downloads.sh ./update_config.sh make make install

Problem Reporting

#1. Download and extract Patchmatic from this link.

#2. Copy the extracted Patchmatic to /usr/bin.

#3. Now open the terminal and run the following commands.

an output from:

kextstat|grep -y acpiplat
kextstat|grep -y appleintelcpu
kextstat|grep -y applelpc
kextstat|grep -y applehda

Also, the output of:

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions && sudo kextcache -u /

Other post-install tasks

There are some settings for initial configuration to be done after completing all the steps above. The tasks below are optional and recommended to be done on your laptop.

#1. The hibernation option (suspend to disk or S4 sleep) is not supported on Hackintosh, so it highly recommended to be disabled. To disable this open terminal and run the command below.

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 sudo rm /var/vm/sleepimage sudo mkdir /var/vm/sleepimage

#2. you will get slow WiFi after sleep and wakeup until you disable “Wake for network access” in SysPrefs->Energy Saver.

#3. If you get Bluetooth Setup Assistant popup on your screen then to disable it, go to SysPrefs->Bluetooth->Advanced and uncheck all the options.

It works fine (WiFi+Bluetooth and AirDrop), just like real Macbook. However, in order to install it, you have to make some modifications to your BIOS, otherwise, BIOS does not accept other WiFi card. I followed your instructions and video and everything was OK until i rebooted. The touch-pad and mouse do not work. I tried to put a wired mouse on my laptop and it fails to recognize the mouse. I performed in terminal the Elan option as my laptop has the Elan touch=pad. Not sure what has gone wrong?

Ok so, after post install i can:
    – delete the kexts installed in system/library/extension
    – copy/paste them in EFI/Clover/kexts/other
    – clear the cache
And it will work properly ?
And i should have a vanilla install ?

    1. blankMedo Reply

Don’t delete any thing and no need to copy the kexts to EFI just following the guide and you will be fine but if you want to boot to recovery partition then copy the kexts to EFI/Clover/kexts/other

      1. blankTom4

Yes, but i would like to have a vanilla install for have any issue with future update of MacOS, in this guide the kexts are injected from system/library/extension and i wiuld like inject them from Clover

      2. blankMedo

No problem with putting in clover and keep them in S/L/E and I prefer to install fresh OS if new update released to avoid problem and you can use time machine to recover your files and app ( I do that senc years and I am good with it and no problem)

    2. blankFaiz Orz Post author Reply

Yes, it should work correctly if the kexts are accurate.

This is great. Can I partition the drive smaller so I can add a window partition on the drive? Do you have a link?

    1. blankFaiz Orz Post author Reply

Yes, you can partition the drive smaller, but the scheme of the hard disk should be GPT, not MBR because later on, you can’t install the drivers.

Hello, thanks for an awesome instruction! It was really helpful. I have installed El Capitan to separate HDD. However, even though the installation and configuratio were successful, my laptop (z50-70, Core i3) unfortunately I could never configurate my laptop into osx. Well, it depends, in some boots it loses sound, in some graphics… and now it is not booting. I have tried almost all types of boot flags in clover, which were not helpful. BTW, laptop itself has no flaws, Windows is working perfectly.
    An ideas?

      To saleh.
You can use another wifi card as bcm943603baed dw1830. Before you must modify your bios. Find on Google, there is a guide. Good luck.

    thank you!! Mr.Faiz,
I tried doing this, but it did not work.
    My computer is LENOVO g50-80(core i5 5200U).
Please tell me the method of broadwell.
(Because you are using google translate, English may be wrong.)

Hey dear, It’s the method. You need to try again but this time follow by this Video tutorial on our youtube channel.
Note: Your hard disk partition map (SCHEME) should be GPT. Otherwise, it’s not going to work.

    Hello Mr. Faiz,

I followed your guide to install Mac OS X Sierra onto my Lenovo Z50-70. I got it installed ok but there is no CI/QE (core imaging/quartz extreme) support. For example, when I open the “APPLICATIONS” folder, it opens very slowly with an elastic motion. Similarly, the screensaver does not work. If you go to the screensaver preview windows all you see if garbled lines, no screensaver preview. Am I the only one who has this problem?

    Here is my laptop spec:

    Lenovo Z50-70
    i5 cpu
    HD4460 gpu
    8GB ram
    256 SSD

      Hello dear,
Sorry but I am not sure what your issue. So recently I have created a Video tutorial for how to install macOS Sierra on Lenovo Z50-70. Check out the video tutorial on our youtube channel: Updated: The video is removed from YouTube 'Sorry guys'

    1. blankFaiz Orz Post author Reply

Go to App Store and download all updated files. Update it by update installer and don’t you forget to backup a USB Installer before updating because it may remove the Bootloader (Clover) files and you may need to redo the steps again to make the drivers work but sometimes it changes nothing.

        Hi Faiz Orz,
where can I find news about lenovo z50-70 hackintosh?
Can you write me your email address?
        Thank you.

I have my Z50-70 in GPT partition table. The initial start screen gives an error after not finding NTFS tables. Is it necessary to have MBR partition table and NTFS drives. Awesome article up there By the way 😀

    1. blankFaiz Orz Post author Reply

You can use the GPT Schema for Windows 10 UEFI or macOS Sierra, not both of them because you can’t have Windows 10 and macOS Sierra on single hard disk. It’s just possible to have one of them in GPT partition because when you install Windows 10 then it breaks down the macOS Sierra bootloader and when you install the bootloader again then this it breaks down the Windows UEFI boot manager, So you can’t use both of them.

It possible, if you install 2 Hard disks in the laptop and use both macOS Sierra and windows just like me, I have a Lenovo z50-70 also and I use 2 hard disks. If you try MBR it will work but not like UEFI in GPT.
